Trump reveals he had ‘perfect’ MRI exam at Walter Reed but not why it was needed

President Donald Trump on Monday disclosed he had an MRI when he was examined by doctors at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center earlier this month.

“I got an MRI. It was perfect. I gave you the full results. We had an MRI, in the machine, you know, the whole thing, and it was perfect,” the president told reporters on Air Force One.

Trump, 79, did not say why doctors ordered the imaging.

An MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, allows doctors to get a better look at a patient’s organs, tissues and skeletal system, according to the Mayo Clinic. The use of the technique does not necessarily indicate a serious condition.

Trump claimed he has been transparent with the American people about his health while boasting of the MRI results.

“Nobody has given you reports like I give you. And if I didn’t think it was gonna be good, either, I would let you know negatively. I wouldn’t run. I’d do something,” the president said. “But the doctors said some of the best reports – for the age – they have ever seen.”

Trump was examined by doctors at Walter Reed earlier this month.

The president’s physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbarella, said at the time that Trump’s visit to Walter Reed included “advanced imaging” but did not say what that entailed.

Following the visit, Barbarella said Trump was in “excellent health.”

Trump spent roughly three hours at the Bethesda, Maryland, hospital for what his doctor, called a “scheduled follow-up evaluation” that was a “part of his ongoing health maintenance plan.” While there, Trump also got his yearly flu shot, as well as a COVID-19 booster vaccine.

“President Donald J. Trump remains in exceptional health, exhibiting strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological and physical performance,” Barbabella wrote in a one-page memo released by the White House. The doctor noted in the memo that the evaluation helped prepare for Trump’s upcoming overseas trips and included advanced imaging, lab testing and preventive health assessments.
